KATWALK (2023)
Enter the world of Katwalk, where Khadija, a girl with a hijab and a love for fashion, aspires to conquer the runway. This web series unfolds the captivating journey of her dream pursuit, brimming with societal tensions.
Katwalk paints a vivid portrait of the challenges faced by a bicultural woman striving to chase her dreams in a Western landscape. It's a narrative that weaves together the intricate threads of identity, the quest for role models, the power of friendship, and the essence of freedom of choice.
This is a rollercoaster ride of 6x10 minute drama web-series made with NPO, where storytelling meets a riot of humor, bursts of absurdism, a kaleidoscope of vibrant fashion, and a splash of unapologetic weirdness.
Fair representation
In our quest for the perfect lead role, authenticity was our guiding star. I believe in breaking stereotypes, especially the misconception that women who wear hijabs are confined to the shadows of shyness and invisibility. It's a common narrative in the film industry to cast actresses without hijabs for such roles, perpetuating a limited perspective.
Contrary to the norm, I think it's not a matter of actresses not being found; it's about roles not being created for them, resulting in a limited search. We embarked on a different journey, seeking a fresh approach, and that's when we discovered our shining star, Meryam Khaldi. Her portrayal of our lead character, Khadija, is nothing short of magnificent.
